The 3rd annual
Háskóli Íslands Student Conference on the Medieval North
in association with Stofnun Árna Magnússonar í íslenskum fræðum
April 12 – 13, 2013

Paper proposals are invited for the 3rd annual Háskóli Íslands Student Conference on the Medieval North, to be held at the University of Iceland on April 12-13, 2013.

This student-organized two-day event is intended as an interdisciplinary forum for postgraduate students of Old Norse and medieval Scandinavia. Students who have not given papers at academic conferences before are especially encouraged to apply, as the primary aim of this event is to provide them with a platform to present their research in a supportive environment, fostering dialogue, exchange of ideas, and inter-department networking on student level, thereby granting an opportunity to gain more conference experience and train paper-presentation and public-speaking skills.

In accordance with the HÍ Student Conference’s previous installments, and to ensure a diverse interdisciplinary selection of approaches and methodologies, the theme of this year’s event is once again left broadly open to any independent research related to medieval Scandinavia, which may include (but not be limited to) Old Norse literature, history of religion(s), folkloristics, linguistics, archaeology, history, and manuscript studies.

Submission guidelines:

Participation in this conference is not restricted to those enrolled at Háskóli Íslands, and interested international students from abroad are welcome to apply as well.
The student conference committee reserves the right to make selections based on quality of written abstracts and timely submissions thereof. Responses to individual submissions will be mailed no later than March 12, 2013.
